Scioto Downs originally opened its doors in 1958 and has showcased the thrill of harness horse racing for over 50 years. This new 117,000-square-foot facility was the first of its kind in the state of Ohio. Referred to as a Racino, the facility combines a racetrack with a video-lottery-terminal (VLT) casino.
The $152 million gaming, entertainment, and dining center opened in June of 2012, just 6 months after breaking ground, and is operational 24-hours a day, seven-days a week.

The Superior Group performed as a design assist partner on this new patient tower that features 224 private rooms, dedicated neuroscience and heart operating rooms, state-of-the-art interventional procedure suites, advanced diagnostic testing facilities, interdisciplinary specialty clinics, and a central atrium that will let natural light into every patient room.
Completed in 2015, the 9-story, 409,000 square foot tower is the tallest building on the Riverside Methodist campus. The project included an extensive Multi-trade prefabrication effort made possible by the planning and collaboration of MEP trades and the design team.

The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Central Energy Plant is the power center for the existing and replacement hospital. It serves as the main chiller and boiler plant for the hospital campus. This complex project was awarded to The Superior Group under a design assist contract, and we have been able to generate significant value in pre-construction value analysis, field research, and planning. The project showcases our firm’s ability to manage critical power systems and complex phasing requirements as we ready a new energy plant while maintaining permanent power in an operating hospital environment.

The Superior Group performed significant upgrades to the electrical system of this critical City of Columbus drinking water process facility. Plant-wide upgrades supported existing operations as well as a new Lime Sludge Control House, Coagulation Sludge Control House, and Sludge Pump Station. The work was performed in a fully-operational plant supplying water to City customers. Thorough planning and coordination was necessary to minimize disruptions to plant operations.

The project included over 250,000 ft2 of major upgrades and renovations to the original Columbus Metropolitan Library. The installation of 1,103 light fixtures, 5,611 feet of lighting, 20,000 lbs. of wire, and 149 poke-thru devices has amplified the user experience. A combination of the pre-fabrication process along with a consistent team effort made for a smooth and successful completion.

The Superior Group performed design, construction, and commissioning services for the addition of a campus-wide, on-site standby power system that utilized the existing 35-kvolt, 480-volt and lower power distribution network. With the engagement of our Engineering team, we were able to accommodate the customer’s specifications and budget while minimize downtime when integrating the new electrical distribution equipment. The result was a standby system that automatically initiates upon utility power loss and is manually initiated to re-transfer back to utility.

The new SRMC is a state of the art 470,000 ft2 hospital completed by Chapel Superior LLC, a healthcare joint venture. The project is a perfect example of how the Design Assist process, when utilized effectively, can not only create cost savings but accelerate the schedule of a job. Our firm was able to re-layout the power distribution system, running most feeders underground to save significant funds and move this critical rough-in activity off of the critical path and ahead in the schedule.
This project included a $2.8M technology package to support the new medical facilities. The package included all voice/data/video cabling, multiple sound systems, nurse call, public address, security, CCTV, infant abduction, and patient protection systems.
